Transition Town Vincent Movie Night - Rise of the Eco Warriors–
Transition Town Vincent Movie Night - Rise of the Eco Warriors
Floreat Athena Soccer Club41 Britannia RdMount Hawthorn,Rise of the Eco Warriors
A group of passionate and naïve young people leave their known worlds behind to spend 100 days in the jungles of Borneo. Their mission is to confront one of the great global challenges of our time, saving rainforests and giving hope to endangered orangutans. Their task is enormous and the odds are against them.Jojo, an orphaned baby orangutan, is entrusted in their care and they must find a way to return her to her forest home. To do this, they need to build an orangutan rehabilitation centre and find ways to help the local communities protect their forest. Under the guidance of their mentor Dr Willie Smits, they introduce an innovative satellite monitoring system called Earthwatchers and enlist the help of school students around the world. The system is put to the test when the bulldozers move in and threaten the future of a nearby community living in a traditional longhouse.
This is a story about what it takes to be an eco-warrior, an individual willing to step up and take action to avert a global catastrophe taking place before our eyes. The eco-warriors represent a new generation, ready to face what is happening on our planet and willing to do something, no matter how small, to build a more humane and balanced world. For them, every individual matters, every action counts.
The film starts at 6.30pm sharp.
Alcohol is available for purchase at the bar. There will be free popcorn for all attendees and you can BYO snacks.Children are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Wildlife Photography Essentials
Team Digital5 Coolgardie TcePerth,If you have a passion for the great outdoors and would like to know how to photograph animals in their natural habitat (or even in the zoo), then this event is for you!
"Wildlife Photography Essentials" will take you on a journey through the mindset of a wildlife photographer. This is a great introduction to the world of wildlife photography: you'll learn the best lenses and equipment you need, how best to use them, the "pro secrets" of taking great images of wild animals and tips for working in a natural environment and becoming familiar with the behaviour of the birds and animals you intend to photograph.
We'll start with an information-packed seminar where wildlife photographer, Craig Franke, will show you how to think and shoot like a wildlife photographer. You'll learn techniques, settings, trouble shooting and strategies for photographing wildlife, including birds.
This is followed by a field trip to a nearby nature reserve where you will have the opportunity to practice what you have learned. Craig will be available to answer your questions or assist you if you ask for help or guidance during the field trip.
Find your wild side (and the wildlife photographer in you) in this workshop! Places in this mini workshop are limited to 12, so book early to avoid missing out.
Level: Beginner-Intermediate
Cost: $130
Maximum participants: 16
Course pre-requisites: You need to be familiar with key concepts in photography, including Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Depth of field. You will also need a telephoto zoom lens - we recommend at least at least a 70-300mm lens, but recommend longer lenses eg. 100-400mm or 150-600mm). - -
