Sustainability - Living Smart 7 week course @ Girrawheen Library/Hub
Girrawheen Library6 Patrick CtGirrawheen,Join Shani from Ecoburbia for an interactive, hands-on and practical Living Smart course that encourages real sustainable lifestyle changes.
Our Sustainability Series aims to engage and encourage our community members to learn about and commit to sustainability in our everyday lives.
Starting on SATURDAY 8th MAY running through to the 19th JUNE, these workshops are every SATURDAY from 9:45 - 12:00pm.
This 7-week course of 'Living Smart' workshops are a behaviour change program that helps build sustainable communities. Come and learn the tips and tricks to take action and help you live more sustainably, improve your quality of life and reduce your environmental impact.
Shani Graham from Ecoburbia is well known for her engaging and participative presenting style. As an expert in her field she will guide you through these interactive sessions full of hands-on activities and provide you the opportunity to meet like-minded community members along the way.
Light refreshments provided.

Modern deodorants contain antiperspirant chemicals like aluminium to reduce the amount of sweat released by temporarily plugging the skin pores that lead to the sweat glands. Learn how to make a simple and very cheap deodorant that works on absorbing sweat and reducing smell, without the chemicals.
Research shows that fluoride helps re-mineralise teeth but there is some concern that fluoride can also be toxic over a period of time. Learn to make a simple toothpaste that replaces fluoride with CHOCOLATE. Believe it or not!
Presented by Robyn Brown from Waste is My Resource, on behalf of Switch your thinking. Participants will also receive a small gift or go into the draw to win a door prize.

This interactive, down-to-earth course runs over 7 sessions : 6 Thursday evenings 7pm to 9 pm starting 20th May finishing 24th June, and an outing (at a time decided in the first session)

We provide exciting and motivating educational programs based on sound behaviour change theory.Ecoburbia, as an urban community and microfarm, is a living demonstration of our intention that we share with others.
But just what is it?
Ecoburbia is part urban infill development, where we have converted one house into four self-contained living units, tripling the population density without adding to the house’s footprint.
Ecoburbia is part urban farm with chickens, goats, compost and fruit trees, plus a large shared veggie patch.
Ecoburbia is part demonstration sustainable house, with cutting edge energy systems, water collection and dispersal systems and innovative passive solar design.
Ecoburbia is part educational opportunity and community hub, with regular tours, workshops, films and other community eventsYou have heard about Ecoburbia - now come and see it for yourself.
During this tour you will see:
- an alternative infill development
- a series of small and tiny houses,
- four water systems,
- an integrated power system including low tech power systems like solar ovens and cookers
- a house renovated for solar passive heating and cooling
- a simple composting toilet
- a large shared veggie garden, herb garden and preserves
- two goats and 15 chickensAnd hear about:
