Long Half-life Book Launch
State Library of Western AustraliaPerth Cultural Centre, 25 Francis StPerth,Join us for a special evening with Professor Ian Lowe AO and CCWA President Carmen Lawrence AO to explore the history of the nuclear industry in Australia.
This is an important time to reflect on the nuclear industry and Australia's role in it - and we can't think of two better people to do that with!
Here in Western Australia we are edging dangerously close to having one operating uranium mine, and are watching yet another community fight yet another proposal for a national radioactive waste dump. Nationally we are discussing the possibility of nuclear submarines, and facing the realities of a $2.2 billion clean-up at Ranger uranium mine. Globally there is a mounting push for a new generation of nuclear power, Russia has weaponised nuclear power in war, tensions are rising, and there is now an international treaty to abolish nuclear weapons.

Urban Weed Forage with Annie Raser-Rowland
Perth City Farm1 City Farm PlaceEast Perth,Take a walk around Perth City Farm with Annie Raser-Rowland, co-author of the bestselling Weed Forager's Handbook, and discover the marvelous world of edible weeds - free, tasty, super-nutritious, and growing right at your back door! Learn which ones you can eat, how to harvest and prepare them, and hear about humanity's rich history of appreciating these plants.
As part of our permaculture practice we often let weeds grow in our garden beds, they feed the pollinators, and sometimes us too! Take advantage of our spray-free farm to learn all about weeds from an expert.
This event will take place during Perth City Farm's weekly Farmer's Market, so make sure you leave time to explore the stalls and treats on offer!
Meet Annie:
Annie Raser-Rowland used to make art, but became suspicious that the natural world was frequently outdoing her, and with greater finesse. She took up making gardens for the sake of beauty, but soon realised she could feed herself at the same time. Her passion for exploring alternative food equations has since led to studies in permaculture and horticulture, and co-authoring The Weed Forager’s Handbook: A Guide to Edible and Medicinal Weeds in Australia and The Art of Frugal Hedonism: A Guide to Spending Less While Enjoying Everything More.Perth City Farm is a 28-year-old urban farm enabling connected, sustainable lives. We operate our half-hectare site as a vibrant community orientated platform that provides space and opportunities to build community connections, and educates and enables people to live sustainably.

Protect Northern Jarrah Forests Campaign Launch
Perth City Farm1 City Farm PlaceEast Perth,Please join WA Forest Alliance for the launch of the Protect Northern Jarrah Forests campaign at Perth City Farm.
The Northern Jarrah Forests (NJF) are some of the most beautiful, diverse, and vulnerable forests on Earth with species diversity that ranks alongside tropical rainforests. But with changes in climate and a history of severe exploitation, they are on the brink of collapse.
International mining companies Alcoa and South32 are proposing to clear an additional 13,672 hectares over the next decade for bauxite mining, and Rio Tinto has applied for exploration licenses across a further 107,000 hectares of Northern Jarrah Forests. We must draw the line and protect what's left of the NJF!
You'll hear from WA Forest Alliance Convener Jess Beckerling and The Wilderness Society WA Campaigns Manager Patrick Gardner about the campaign and why we must stop the clearing of these ancient forests so they can remain as critical habitat for endangered wildlife and vital carbon stores.
Pre-purchase a delicious Chickpea Rendang Curry from The Hidden Pantry for dinner and pair it with local wine and beer available for sale on the night. The evening will include door prizes, a raffle and merchandise for sale. All proceeds support WA Forest Alliance's protection of the Northern Jarrah Forests.
