Darius Wells Library & Resource CentreChisham Ave & Robbos WayKwinana,Organic kitchen waste and garden waste are a large percentage of what households throw into the general waste bin.
Come and learn with Peg Davies how these simple and free raw materials can be made into compost to feed the garden and help the environment.
Compost is great for recycling food waste, improving the condition of your soil, increasing water retention and fertilising plants. Good compost is full of nutrients and organic matter.
During this workshop you will learn what ingredients to use in your batch and in what ratios. You will see real compost in action and find out what to do day by day to get your compost really cranking.
After completing the workshop, buy twin compost bins and receive a $60 rebate upon proof of purchase and residence (attendance of workshop is required to be eligible for the rebate)

The 5 Four Store71 Old Perth RdBassendean,This exhibition will showcase proven initiatives to inspire businesses to transition to cost-effective & eco-friendly takeaway alternatives.
A state-wide phase out of certain single-use plastic or disposable items came into effect in December 2021. In response, the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Council (EMRC) in collaboration with 5 member Councils – Town of Bassendean, Cities of Bayswater, Kalamunda and Swan and the Shire of Mundaring - are hosting an exhibition to inspire food service businesses across Perth to transition to cost effective eco-friendly replacements.
Local case studies with innovative yet simple to replicate initiatives have been selected to share their experience and knowledge. In addition, the following service providers will be available to answer all your questions about reusable networks, organics collection and how to implement sustainable food/waste practices:

Thommo's Community Garden152 Robertson DveGlen Iris,As part of the South West Science Council's calendar of events we'll be hosting a series of workshops and presentations engaging the community in a variety of practical sciences. These workshops will focus on showcasing how ancient technologies can be easily utilised, providing more opportunities for living sustainably. Bring the family along and we'll all learn a new (old!) skill.
We'll be meeting at Thommo's Community Garden for a morning discussing the intricacies of worm farms and how you can reduce household waste and produce nutrient rich fertiliser for your garden.

Watercolour paints result in a transparent and layered effect, a style which works wonderful for trees. Learn how to paint watercolour trees whilst relaxing and thinking about how trees help us by providing shade, oxygen, food, habitat, flowers and much more. Take home your painting at the end.
No prior experience needed. This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 12 and over.

Settlers Cottage180 Pearson StChurchlands,Ros will demonstrate and take you through her method of preparing a textured canvas to be used as a background for your wildlife subject. Then, when the paint is dry, will demonstrate some methods of transferring your subject onto the canvas.
Cost includes a canvas with a coloured under coat and all materials. Bring your own photograph or choose from a selection provided.
