Trapdoor Spiders of Perth
October 2, 2020 –
Dr Leanda Mason will be discussing findings from her PhD thesis ‘Living on burrowed time: mygalomorph spiders of Perth, Western Australia’ which investigated the main threats facing trapdoor spiders in urban areas of Perth. Some of these threats included; quality and quantity of habitats, predation from other animals, effects of invasive grasses, and fire.
The second part of the talk will discuss Adj. Professor Barbara York-Main and her enormous contributions to natural sciences, and more specifically trapdoor spiders.
Dr Leanda Mason is a local scientist whose conservation ecology studies revolve entirely around the world of trapdoor spiders. In her spare time, she enjoys walking through the bush whilst only staring at the ground, talking about spiders and puns.
