Refashioning clothing for a better future – Week 2
October 29, 2020 –
This initiative is part of the City of Canning’s Sustainability Community Learning Program 2020 and the workshops are lead by the local fashion upcycler Mariana Kirova, creative designer of Eco Fashion Sewing.
First of its kind, the series is exciting opportunity for creative sewists in Perth WA to learn how to alter at a pro level and keep clothes in circulation (Week 1), but mostly to enrich their skills with creative upcycling techniques on various easy to find clothing (Weeks 2-4).
29th OCTOBER, Week 2: Refashioning Men's Button-Down Shirts
Affordable and easy to find, a men's shirt is a good quality, natural cotton material that is worth saving. This workshop will surprise you with the unique woman's pieces you can make out of men's shirts.
Since her first upcycled collection for the Eco Fashion Week Australia 2017, Mariana has lots of secrets how to transform men shirts into woman's clothing successfully. The session will deliver valuable knowledge on how to mix colours and patterns, with key tips and tricks for unique refashions by incorporating original elements like plackets, cuffs, collars or sleeves into the new design.
This workshop will require a couple of men's button-down shirts to make the class project while practicing the techniques and collecting refashioning insights.
