Open Garden Fundraiser – Glen Forrest
October 25, 2020 –
Jenny’s place –Maya Mir - is a really impressive permaculture bush & food garden, considering that it’s barely 4 yrs old. It’s a riot of colourful natives, exotics, veggies & fruit trees on a gravelly half acre bush block in Glen Forest. The problematic, huge boulders & branches remaining after building her (Just Big Enough) 1x1 solar passive house, became the basis of a massive hugelkulture garden that wraps around the house. It’s layered terraces, after copious applications of straw, manure & perspiration are now overflowing with edible and colourful plants.
The house has 3kW solar PV, wood-fired heating and no air-con. Currently there’s a 32kL rainwater tank, with some freebie small ones soon to be added.
The garden:
over 40 fruit trees,
a giant hugelkulture bed,
chooks,
veggies and
compost bins.
seed raising area
repurposed bathtubs
solar food dehydrator
You’ll find lots of things to inspire in this garden & you can take it all in with a nice afternoon tea.
$5 entry includes afternoon tea
