One of our favourite gardening innovations that always attracts attention on our garden tour is without doubt, the wicking beds. What we love about them is that they are water-wise, easy to look after, don’t involve getting down on your hands and knees, don’t take up much space, and are so productive.
If you are not familiar with wicking beds they are really like a giant self-watering pot. The idea is that water is stored in a reservoir underneath the garden bed and “wicks” up to the growing medium and delivers a constant supply of moisture right where it is needed to the roots of the plants.
In this workshop we will actually build a wicking bed from scratch so you become familiar with the principles and can go home and adapt them to suit your space, resources and needs. We will give you lists of materials you need and suggestions for where to purchase them and you can construct a wicking bed and get ready for a bountiful summer veggie harvest.
Take home notes and morning tea included.
