Great Southern Bioblitz 2020
September 26, 2020 –
We have chosen an area at North Beach bounded by the coast , Beach Road, Mitchell Freeway and Reid Hwy/North Beach Road.
Our headquarters will be the Henderson Environment Centre at Star Swamp. We have booked the Henderson Centre for the whole day, 8am-8pm, as we will run an evening walk as well.
We are still working on a program but provisional details are:
We have asked BirdLife Western Australia if they could help us by surveying the birds in the following habitats :
-the coast -between North Beach Road and Beach Rd (1.6km),
-the bush – Star Swamp,
-a wetland – Big and Little Carine Swamp.
David Pike will be leading a walk between 8 – 10 am and Leanda Mason will be helping us find and identify spiders in the afternoon. Both at Star Swamp.
We hope Stirling Natural Environment Coastcare (SNEC) can help by joining us and helping with the coastal survey.
Ideally we would like a group walking between Beach Rd and North Beach Rd (maybe at same time as BirdLife Western AustraliaA) recording plants and animals ( and birds in addition to BirdlifeWA)).
In addition to the bird surveys we have broken the surveys of Star Swamp into 4 time slots of 3 hours with a leader who will help the group find and identify specific flora or fauna (at the same time recording any other animals and plants).
