Ecology and Management of the Swan-Canning
August 11, 2020 –
Join this free online event to learn about current research into urban impacts on freshwater ecosystems across the Swan Coastal Plain.
Globally, coastal aquatic ecosystems are impacted by urbanisation and the same is true for the Swan-Canning: including its streams, rivers and the estuary. Land use change leads to clearing of native vegetation and excess nutrient and pollutant inputs (from agriculture, residential fertiliser, industrial areas) to the system, resulting in poor water quality and degraded natural ecosystems. This talk will cover recent research of land use change impacts on Swan-Canning ecosystems - with a focus on small streams and estuarine seagrass – and discuss the current and future management of these systems.
This free event will be hosted on Zoom and led by Jen Middleton (PhD student at UWA) and colleague Dr Belinda Martin.
The talk will start at 7pm, however we encourage attendees to log into Zoom between 6.30-6.50pm so that everyone has time for troubleshooting prior to starting. Places are limited, please register for a ticket in order to receive further details on joining this talk.
