Cutting Kitchen Waste
June 22, 2022 –
Shire of Mundaring and Switch Your Thinking invite you to attend this FREE webinar.
If you want to learn how to shop smarter, waste less and save money on food, this event is for you!
In Australia, reducing food waste could save the average family up to $3,800 per year. Research by the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre has identified that nearly 300kgs of food is wasted in Australia per person per year, with household food waste making up 2.5 million tonnes, or about 34% of the overall total amount of food wasted.
Approximately 92% of household food waste still goes directly to landfill, where it anaerobically decomposes, expelling methane – a greenhouse gas 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Knowing how to reduce food waste is not only more sustainable for the environment, but it will also help you be more efficient with your time in the kitchen too. If we all do our bit, we can have a huge impact on the amount of food wasted and create a more sustainable future. There are many ways to combat food wastage in the home and the key is developing good habits.
Switch your Thinking will discuss strategies to help reduce your food waste through things like meal planning, shopping, using leftovers and composting rather than using a landfill and more!
