Join the Conservation Council of WA and Wide Open Agriculture for our first Environment Matters of 2022 – where we’ll be digging deeper into the important role food production can play in tackling climate change.
We’ll be hearing direct from our partner organisation, ASX listed Wide Open Agriculture (WOA), who are Australia’s leading regenerative food and agriculture company and owner of consumer brand Dirty Clean Food, along with a panel of leading industry experts and local farmers – this is a conversation not to be missed.
This is a free event and we’d love you to break bread with us after the presentations – literally! Light refreshments will be provided with catering by the one and only North Street Store.

Lindsay Miles is an educator, speaker, author and passionate zero waste/plastic-free living advocate helping others live more meaningful lives with less waste and less stuff. She has been sharing ideas, tips, tricks and strategies on her website Treading My Own Path since 2013. Her first book, Less Stuff, was published in 2019 and her second, The Less Waste No Fuss Kitchen was published in June 2020. Originally from the UK, Lindsay now lives in Perth, Western Australia.

Skilled volunteers will help you with repairs of bicycles, computers, electrical appliances, household items and textiles. If you're unsure, bring it down and we'll see what we can do!

House Rules:Only one item is repaired at a time - if you have multiple items, you'll need to join the queue again. This ensures everyone gets to be seen at least once by a Repairer.
Please show your gratitude and respect for our Volunteer Repairer by staying with them for the duration of your repair - have a chat, you might learn a thing or two!
We cannot guarantee a successful repair, however our Volunteer Repairers will do their best to help you free of charge with the time, tools and skills they have available. Advice will be provided if your item is unable to be repaired.

ABC TV Gardening Australia presenter and environmental scientist Dr Josh Byrne will showcase the latest ideas in environment-friendly gardening. EMRC CEO Marcus Geisler will take the attendees on a journey of how the EMRC is embracing Circular Economy as it moves towards a Net Zero target by 2050. Marcus, will focus on the EMRC’s resource recovery programs, in particular its Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) processing which separates FOGO material from other waste and is used to create valuable organic compost.
Your Garden with Josh Byrne is supported by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions River Guardians Program and the EMRC.
The webinar will cover:
- Presenting the impacts of excessive nutrients on the Swan Canning Rivers system.

Insect diversity is plummeting and a lot of our native wildlife is endangered. But as a community we can all make small, positive changes for good. If you have a backyard, a balcony, courtyard or verandah you can grow plants that provide food, safety and security for our endangered wildlife. In this 2 hour workshop I describe how my organic, diverse approach to gardening has created a backyard filled with insects, frogs, reptiles, spiders and birds and explain how you can achieve the same in your garden too.
Topics covered will include:
- How to design a wildlife friendly garden from scratch, including trees, shrubs and flowers that entice wild animals into your garden
- The best plants to grow to improve insect diversity
- Why an organic, pesticide-free approach is essential to maximise insect diversity and protect native birds
- How and where to provide water-access in your garden for birds, lizards, bees, wasps and frogs
- What is a ‘beach’ for your pond, and why is it helpful
- How letting your herbs and salad greens go to flower will improve diversity in your garden
