Butterflies are sensitive to habitat and often indicate a healthy garden environment.Join us at the library to create your own ceramic butterfly house to help keep your garden pollinated this summer.

Join Cathy Levett in this interactive workshop to learn about water catchments and water quality. Children will investigate where water comes from and how we know it is healthy enough to drink. Participants will find out how it all works using a catchment model!
Children will discover amazing critters that live in our waterways as they dip into trays of pond water to look for insect larvae and other small animals. Children can use a mobile phone or tablet with special iScope microscopes to calculate the health of the pond by the types of macroinvertebrates collected.
This activity is for school-aged children aged 6 years and over. The event is free, but bookings are essential. Children aged under 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Adults accompanying children do not need a ticket.

The City of Swan is home to a variety of reptiles - join Native Animal Rescue, a not-for-profit organisation located in the City of Swan, to learn about different snake and lizard species, what habitat they prefer, how you can care for them naturally without causing harm, how to get reptiles safely and humanely relocated and what to do if you find an injured reptile or native animal.

Kids will open their senses and explore their awareness during wildlife ninja school where we will learn skills to safely explore, appreciate and connect with nature.
We will have quiet time to increase our senses, participate in a wildlife ninja obstacle course, explore the bush to complete a nature wheel and learn the importance of leave what we find behind.
This activity will include a short period of time where the children, activity staff and volunteers will find a spot without the parents. This is to help the children gain a sense of awareness, help strengthen their connection with nature and to facilitate self-discovery.
Suited to ages 4 to 7 years.

At each stop you will be learning about local animals and what they need in their habitat to survive. Once you have chosen your animal to match the habitat, you will use I-pads to take photos as proof on how this animal would survive in this vegetation area.
Once you have navigated your way back to base, we will delve into some of the threats these species face, with a focus on fire. We will then get wet while trying to save the black cockatoos from an approaching fire!
