Waste Sorted Workshop Series
Victoria Park Community Centre248 Gloucester StEast Victoria Park,Start this year *reducing waste* how you intend to go on...
Join us for a series of FREE workshops designed for adults and children to attend together to learn about living with less waste, reducing the use of plastics and taking steps towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
These afternoon sessions (held on Saturdays and Wednesdays) will give the participants the tools to make better choices to help care for our planet and acknowledge the consequences of their actions. They will be provided with ideas to reduce their impact and tweak their daily habits with gentle encouragement, boundless enthusiasm and support!
Learn from passionate zero-waste and plastic-free living spokesperson and educator Lindsay Miles - who helps people to find more meaningful lives with less waste and less stuff. She has been sharing ideas and strategies on her popular website, Treading My Own Path, since 2013, and has been featured across international media including, The Guardian, The Sunday Times, TreeHugger, TEDx and more. She gives talks and workshops to encourage others to embrace change, reconnect with their values and make a positive impact on the world around them.
There are three different sessions, which repeat on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons through Feb and March.
1. What Goes in What Bin (and Where to Recycle Everything Else)
1-2.30pm, Saturday 25 February and 4-5.30pm, Wednesday 1 March
Come get the real low down on that age old question -what should go in which bin and where do we put the other stuff? In this judgement free, interactive session families will sharpen their recycling knowledge, dive into a fun, hands on activity and take away some key info on how to maximise their recycling practice for the least environmental impact.
*Individuals and families will take home some handy dandy resources, outlining best practice and local recycling options.
2. Build your own Worm Farm
1-2.30pm, Saturday 11 March and 4-5.30pm, Wednesday 15 March
Ever been curious about what it takes to reduce food waste by rearing a healthy 'clew' of worms? Join Lindsay and the Vic Park team in this session where we'll learn everything wormy - what they eat, where to keep them, how to make sure their getting what they need - and most importantly - join in setting some worm farms up from materials usually destined for the bin!
*Individuals and families will have the option to take home one of the worm farms created.
3. DIY Pot Plants and Reducing Packaging
1-2.30pm, Saturday 25th March and 4-5.30pm, Wednesday 29 March
We all need ideas on how to reuse things around the house right? Pop along to this 'make and learn' session where Lindsay will share her favourite simple, but clever ways to up-cycle bits and bobs from about the house to extend their use. One of which we'll all get to make - DIY newspaper pot plants complete with seedlings!
*Individuals and families will have the option to take home their pot plants with seeds.
These workshops have been made possible via a grant from WasteSorted, A Waste Authority Program and the Victoria Park Community Centre.
Access:
Vic Park Community Centre has step free access, a disabled toilet with baby change, outside access and gender neutral toilets. We will try our best to make our events inclusive of all.
Please email: community@vicparkcc.org if you have any questions or would like to flag any access requirements.
