The Paris Agreement and Implications for Australia

The Paris Agreement and Implications for Australia

August 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm
Kim Beazley Lecture Theatre, Murdoch University, 90 South Street, Murdoch, Western Australia, Australia

The Paris Agreement’s central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2oC above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5oC. To achieve this limit, scientific assessments suggest that global CO2 emissions need to peak by 2020, and reach zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

Set against the context of rapidly reducing costs for major renewable energy and storage technologies, this year’s Keith Roby Memorial Lecture looks at the opportunities for Australia (and Western Australia) to take advantage of the coming transformation of the global energy system.

RSVPs are essential by 11 August 2017.
